Pemberton Twp- Charles O. Gwin, Jr. "Charlie", 52 of Browns Mills died suddenly, Thursday in Oxnard, California. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania he grew up in Portage, Wisconsin; where he lived until he joined the Navy in 1969. His military career took him and his family all over the world, before moving to Browns Mills in 1987. While on active duty, he received numerous commendations for outstanding performance, ability, initiative and loyal dedication to duty, which reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service. He was honored with the Expeditionary medal for action in Beirut, a National Defense medal, and several awards for good conduct. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1989, after 20 years of service. Following his distinguished career with the Navy he became a Logistics Engineer for BAE Systems in Mount Laurel, NJ where he worked up until his death. Charles was a member of the Lakehurst VFW Post 10061, Society of Logistic Engineers, and he was the Chairman for the United Way Campaign at BAE Systems for the past two years. Pre-deceased by his father, Charles is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 31 years, June, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Abegglen of Portage, Wisconsin. He is also survived by a son and daughter-in-law Charles O. 3rd & Susann M. Gwin of Browns Mills, a daughter April J. Gwin of Mystic Island, NJ, his mother Ethel M. Pepping (Anthony) of Nixa Missouri, a brother & sister- in- law Richard A. & Mindy Gwin of Madison Wisconsin, a sister and brother-in-law Madonna M. & Mitchell Baker of Springfield, Missouri, a half brother David Gwin (Joan) of Estelle Manor, NJ, two half sisters, Virginia Allen (Raymond) of Terre Haute, IN and Jane Pearcy (Hiram) of Verona, WI and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 10am at the Fort Dix Installation Chapel, 5240 New Jersey Avenue, Fort Dix, NJ with Lt. Commander Rick Ianniello US Navy Chaplain officiating. Burial will follow in the Brigadier General Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery in Arneytown, NJ with full military honors.
