Pemberton Twp.- Constance E. "Conny" Gillespie, 79 of Browns Mills died Thursday at home. Born in Philadelphia she has resided in Browns Mills for the past 42 years. She owned with her husband Jack J C Market in Browns Mills and later JC’s Liquor & Lounge. Conny was a member of St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church & the Altar Rosary Society, PAL Ladies Auxiliary, Browns Mills VFW Post 6805 Ladies Auxiliary; she was past president of Soroptomists International. Conny also served on the Board of Directors for Sickle Cell Anemia, Board of Advisors for Midlantic Bank, and the Pemberton Township Zoning Board of Adjustment. She was the first woman elected to the Pemberton Township Board of Education serving four terms from February 1971 to April 1983, four times vice-president, and became the first woman to serve as President of the Board of Education in April 1982. Daughter of the late Constantine & Elizabeth Carroll she is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years John P. "Jack" Gillespie, three sons and daughters in law Dennis J. & Jean Gillespie of Galloway Twp., John C. & Kathleen Gillespie of Marlton, and Edward W. & Cathy Gillespie of Mt. Vernon, Va., three daughters and two sons in law Sharyn C. & Dennis Taets of Horseheads, NY, Joanne M. & George Gibbs of Browns Mills, and Mary Therese "Tracy" Gillespie of Mystic Island, NJ, a sister Joan Greco of Pelham Manor, NY, and 12 grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10am St. Ann’s RC Church 22 Trenton Road Browns Mills. Burial will follow in the Brigadier General Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery in Arneytown. Calling hours will be Monday from 3 – 5pm & 7-9pm and Tuesday from 8:30 – 9:30am at the Moore Funeral Home 371 Lakehurst Road Browns Mills, NJ.
